Madukani
WordPress done properly — a fast WooCommerce store with real M-PESA checkout and Nairobi delivery zones, not a bloated theme demo.
The brief
Not every project needs a custom platform. For Madukani — electronics, appliances and crafts — WooCommerce was the right tool. The job was doing it right: fast, clean, and actually able to take Kenyan payments.
I built the store, wired in M-PESA checkout, configured delivery zones, and tuned it so it doesn't crawl like the average WordPress site.
What I built
- WooCommerce store — catalog, categories, variations and stock, structured for a mixed inventory.
- M-PESA checkout — proper STK push integration, not a "send money to this till" workaround.
- Delivery zones — Nairobi zones and fees configured at checkout.
- Performance work — lean theme, WebP images, caching — because slow stores don't convert.
- Order management — email/SMS notifications and a clean admin order flow.
Under the hood
WooCommerce done well is mostly subtraction — a lean theme, minimal plugins, aggressive caching and image discipline. The M-PESA gateway integration handles callbacks properly so orders flip to paid automatically.
Where it is now
Madukani is a working store taking real M-PESA orders. It proves a point I make to clients often: the platform matters less than the execution.
